Photos from the Boxer 500
Proceeds from the Boxer 500 stay in Nebraska! Funds are used to support the task force mission of increasing the number of lives saved from colon cancer through education, early detection, and prevention.
In 2021 the task force wrote a letter of support resulting in a grant led by the Nebraska Cancer Coalition. The grant kick started a collaboration with the national group Fight CRC (Fight Colorectal Cancer) to develop a plan to approach the Nebraska State Legislature to change the minimum screening age for colon cancers to 45 as supported by the American Cancer Society and United States Preventative Services Task Force. The team is also working to eliminate cost-sharing for patients who need to have a colonoscopy following a positive home-screening.
During 2022 the Great Plains Colon Cancer Task Force, in collaboration with CHI, Methodist Health System, Nebraska Medicine and numerous community pharmacies and volunteers distributed over 800 colon cancer screening kits.
The March 2022 Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign had statewide reach and many notable landmarks were lit in Blue including:
Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge (Omaha), University of Nebraska Medical Center Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (Omaha), University of Nebraska Medical Center Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis, Global Center (Omaha), Midtown Crossing Billboard (Omaha), Papillion Pedestrian Bridge (Papillion), PayPal, Inc.
